I’m cold

The last 2 nights it’s dropped to 63 degrees in our house. It may warm a whole 1-2 degrees during the day. We’ll see how long I hold out before trying out our newly fixed heater (the previous owner had installed a thermostat that wouldn’t properly interface with our unit). That’s over 5 years living here without a working heater.

Daaaaaangit.

Michelle and Joe get hitched!

I’d be remiss if I didn’t put an entry in about Michelle and Joe’s wedding that took place on 11/2/07. It really was a great wedding. Good food, good entertainment, speeches to make one merry and excellent company. And let’s not forget all the boogeying provided by DJ Ayal and iTunes. As I’m certain is the same for the newlyweds, everything went by in a delightful blur. I cried at the ceremony. It is so plainly obvious how much Joe loves Michelle and that touches me profoundly. I get a little weepy-eyed every time I think about it. I think there’s something about having kids that makes you more sentimental about how important it is that your loved ones be loved. But before I digress into a soppy mess, let us focus on the happy. Nothing says happy like a good wedding day donut….

It’s a jelly…

Unfortunately I didn’t get any pictures of Michelle and Joe on their wedding day (it’s hard when you’re a brideslady). But hey that’s what professional photographers are for, right? Speaking of being a brideslady, just in case Michelle and Joe decide to take down their wedding website at some point in time, I’m going to document what they put about me on their site. It’s sweet afterall and they did a great job Simpsonizing me!

“Shawna and Michelle met in their seventh grade, probably in math class, though that time is kind of a blur so there’s no real way to tell. Shawna introduced Michelle to a wide world on things previously unknown, including They Might Be Giants, apples fresh off the tree, composting, and D&D. They remained good friends throughout junior high and high school, sharing the same classes, the same friends, and the same propensity for geekiness and eating.

Though Shawna and Michelle have continued to live near their respective college towns, their friendship has remained strong. Shawna’s adventurous nature has led Michelle into some interesting experiences: hiking in the Alps, eating Chinese food in Prague- bleh, attempted alien-spotting in Roswell, snorkeling in the Florida Keys, and storming a pirate ship. Wait, the last one was D&D… hee hee, never mind!

Shawna has always been a great support to Michelle, encouraging her and dispensing such words of wisdom as “chicks are crazy and guys are insensitive bastards”. She also happens to be Michelle’s piggy sire, inducting her into the piggy clan after one particularly gluttonous dim sum episode. So, with many years of friendship and eating behind them and many more to come, Michelle is honored to have her piggy sire and close friend as one of her brideladies.”

And I, in turn, was honored to be one of Michelle’s bridesladies. If I ever get a video of Angela’s and my wedding day toast, I will surely post it here for posterity. In the meantime, here’s to you dearest Michelle and Joe and your happily ever after.

Charity

Marshall is a giver. He just gives and gives.

Here are a couple of examples:

“Mama, I’m all done with this ham. Here you have it.”

“Mama, I see that you are putting on your shoes. Here have your other shoe. (or whatever shoe is closest to him)”

He also likes to give to people he meets out on the street.

EK has had a whole collection of dead leaves collected from our front yard bestowed upon him.

Some random caregiver at the playground very graciously excepted woodchip after woodchip from Marshall today.

I don’t know how long this silent-giving-you-items-I-find-on-the-ground phase lasts, but I’ll miss it when it’s gone. In the meantime, I’m hoping that Marshall is learning to say “thank you” when you receive a gift. He’s been hearing it repeatedly for a few months now.
