Why do people constantly do things that make me want to beat them?

In the midst of the worst fire in San Diego record, what do I see as I’m voluntarily evacuating myself to our friends’ house in Clairemont?

Some asshole flicking his cigarette butt out his window.

I really, really hate people some times. How can one be so self-entitled to treat the world as one’s trashcan? Especially with such a strong reminder that we live in a tinderbox literally staring them in the face? Even with good friends offering the generosity of their homes and the outpouring of goodwill in the form of donations at the evacuation centers, it’s the small acts of selfishness that eat away at my view of humanity. The cause of the fires is still unknown, but I have to wonder if it’s the idiotic act of one individual that has caused so much devastation for the many (ala the Cedar Fire).

On the brighter side, Tim and I returned home today after a night at Brian & Wendy’s. They were too kind to offer us a place to stay and in turn Marshall screamed until 2:30 AM. Thank you, you two. (Jeannine, aren’t you glad we didn’t come over to your place?? ;)) Even though the news reports speak of very minimal containment for both the major fires blazing in the county, the winds have at least started to blow in a more favorable direction.

I know there are still a good many displaced out there in the county. Here’s a little prayer that you get to be home with your loved ones soon. Unless of course you’re that asshole out flicking your cigarette butt our your car window… to you, here’s hoping you get your teeth kicked in.

If you walk away (walk away), I will follow

Two days ago we had a baby, today we have a toddler.

It’s crazy how in a blink of an eye, things can change around here. Yesterday, when we had visitors (all 3 Santats, plus EK & Dorothy), Marshall suddenly decided it was time to put out some more steps. Was it because he wanted to show-off for the group? Was it because Marshall was trying to mimic Alek (Dan & Leah’s 21 mo old)? Was it just time to string together those few steps he had mustered before?

Today he couldn’t get enough of walking. He’ll rise butt first, get his balance, put his arms out in front of him for balance and off he toddles in a very duck-footed stance (legs unbending). A lot of the time he’ll be grinning ear to ear and/or laughing. It’s quite adorable. Since I know I won’t get around to posting the video any time soon, let me know if you want me to e-mail you a short video we have taken of it.

Now I just have to get used to the safety latches we finally installed.

Go toddler, go. Mama and Dada are watching ever more vigilantly.
