The Land of Milk & Honey

Marshall went for his 1 year check-up yesterday. The check-up was very interesting to me as they handed me checklists to gauge how Marshall is developing. There are the little steps he is mastering that I wouldn’t have thought to look at as development. Facts like how he likes to hand us small objects he finds on the ground or that he will now do things on purpose to make us laugh. There are of course the bigger more noticeable milestones. He stands unassisted, but upon realizing he’s standing he’ll promptly sit down. He can correctly identify “ball”, “mama”, “dada” and “dog”. He surprised me last week by clapping when I said the word “clap”. Much to my delight he has developed the ability to put items away! Blocks can now go back in the bin. Just this morning he showed how he could stack the nested cups back inside each other (and then squeal in delight when he did so successfully).
As for other Marshall vitals, he now weighs 18 1/2 lbs. I didn’t get the exact height, but they said he’s in the 10-25% and that his head remains in the 75-90%. They did a vision test and checked for anemia again, both which came back as normal. I also learned that honey is now OK and I have been giving Marshall whole milk since Wednesday. After he drank it the second day, he was like a cat on catnip. I think he likes the creaminess of it. However, Marshall will have to wait on that peanut butter and shrimp sandwich he’s been asking me for. Shellfish and nuts are no-nos until they turn 2.
