There were 10 in the bed and the little one said…

roll-over.

My mom had told me that one day we would go in and find our baby laying on his stomach. Today was that day. Marshall rarely cries himself to sleep at night, but tonight he seemed to be having troubles drifting off to sleep. I figured since he hadn’t cried or fussed much at all today that he was finally getting his fuss out. After 20 minutes (our standard cry-out time) I went in to check on him and found him in a pool of tears on his tummy. Poor little guy! Didn’t I feel like a terrible mom for having waited so long!?! But as soon as I picked him up, he gave me a smile and a giggle. Talk about short-term memory. Guess I’ll be checking in with him sooner if he starts crying after we put him down for the night. Here’s hoping that he doesn’t do it in the middle of the night! Tomorrow we’re certainly going to work on his tummy to back roll. We’re also going to try out the new Baby Einstein Activity Center (yet another baby prison) we bought today for Marshall’s 4 month birthday! Pictures to follow.

Who rules babytown?

*growl*

Marshall turned 4 months old today. He celebrated with a good show of laughing, sleeping, crying, spitting up on mom and of course attacking his monkey friend. Unfortunately for the monkey, he has entered Marshall’s life during the very beginning of the “grab item, stuff item in mouth” phase. Slobbering on items is far more interesting than rolling over on his own. Marshall did that twice earlier this month (11th and 12th), but has shown no signs of interest in that since then. Marshall also enjoys a good stand. Standing while shoving items into his cryhole? That is clearly the best of both worlds.

Tim is teaching Marshall to hug one of his smaller bears (Awww). Thus, Marshall’s attack moves now include: “claw, claw, slobber”, spit-up at will, and bearhug. If you would like to see these moves in action, I have updated Marshall’s video section to showcase our vicious little killer attacking his monkey.

I don’t have hard numbers as to how much Marshall is weighing and how long he has grown. I estimate he’s somewhere between 13-14 lbs and that he’s 25 inches long. I will get these official counts when Marshall heads to his next doctor appointment on Feb. 5th.

A day in the life of Marshall B. Hamon, age 3 months 9 days

I’m a little late this month of the chronicling of Marshall. I figured January 1st, wasn’t exactly going to be the “average” day for him as he stayed up a little later than normal while we attended Bob and Janet’s New Year’s Eve party. I decided instead to go for a Thursday. On Thursday’s we usually go visit with my mom for dinner. Since I’m now back at work (temporarily??) in the later afternoons (3 PM - 6 PMish), she was gracious enough to come over to our place instead. During the day there were two events worth mentioning that I’ll * for a more detailed story below.

In summary, Marshall slept for 12 1/2 hours, ate for 2 1/2 hours, cried for about an hour and sucked his fingers the rest of the time. Marshall is really enamored with his fingers at the moment which leads me to my first story -the greedy feed. Nearing the end of his morning feed, I started feeling a sensation that was mostly unpleasant for my boob. I figured that since it near the end of the feed, that my breast was just fatigued. However, as I disengaged Marshall, I realized that he had snuck his fingers into his mouth along with the boob. The greedy bugger couldn’t wait to be sucking his fingers again.

Marshall is doing really well with tummy time. His neck is quite strong and he can stay on his tummy now without getting too fussy. He is also making waves on trasitioning between back and tummy. He now arches his back a great deal and leans to his left while on his back. This leads me to the very brief roll-over story. Today was the first day that when I balanced Marshall on his side he would independently roll over on to his tummy after a shortwhile. With all of the back arching, I’m certain he will be rolling over on his own in the next few weeks. I’m not sure why Marshall spins 180 degrees in his nighttime sleep. I assume it is from his leg kicking, but I find it curious that with nothing to impede his turning process why doesn’t he ever end up at 90 degrees or 270 degrees? It’s pretty amusing to come in and greet Marshall’s feet rather than his head. Anyone else got a spinning baby on their hands? I’ve never heard of it before.
